Dedicated to advancing the knowledge of personnel involved in the development, selection, operation, repair and support of biomedical instrumentation in healthcare institutions throughout the State of Georgia

ABOUT US

The Georgia Biomedical Instrumentation Society (GBIS) is a professional association of Biomeds*, manufacturers, hospitals and colleges who are interested in furthering the knowledge, professionalism and interaction of these unique and important individuals. We are healthcare technology management professionals.

The GBIS conducts several educational seminars each year, hosts meetings on a regular basis, has an annual Conference, and encourages additional chapters in the parts of the state where there is interest. We also contribute to affiliated charity organizations.

Our Mission

The Georgia Biomedical Instrumentation Society is dedicated to advancing the knowledge of personnel involved in the development, selection, operation, repair and support of biomedical instrumentation in healthcare institutions throughout the State of Georgia.

Our History

GBIS was founded from local associations during the 1980's to develop a state society to enhance the knowledge and growth of the Biomeds in the State of Georgia. Local groups such as: Atlanta Biomedical Association led by Jack Snow, Dave Wayne, Dr. Mike O'Rear; Central Georgia Biomedical Association led by Dean Fripp, South Georgia Biomedical Medical Instrumentation led by Horace Hunter and Gene Potter, Savahanna Area Biomedical Society led by Bob Carey came together to form the Georgia Biomedical Instrumentation Society. There were many members of the local associates to decide to merge due to the low numbers of member involvement.

GBIS started with approximately 100 members state wide with an increasing membership each year during the annual symposiums. GBIS later merged with MD Expo to host the annual symposiums for approximately three years. The motto of GBIS has always been "the workers are few but the harvest is plentiful." Meaning, board members and a few members will always be there to do the work to get others involved. GBIS looks at the supporters of the society to be partners in providing the best healthcare products and services possible to the customers we serve.

*Biomeds: The preferred name for all Biomedical Equipment Technicians and Clinical Engineers are BIOMEDS/ Healthcare Technology professionals. We are the people who maintain, repair, keep safe, and assist the operators of medical equipment in hospitals. We are the people who fix heart monitors, surgery equipment, X-ray machines, infant incubators, laboratory equipment, and hundreds of other medical equipment which is used by doctors and other caregivers to make people well.
